When you’re deep into a period of change, greater levels of uncertainty will crop up. This uncertainty can lead to a stream of recycled thought patterns as you try to “figure it out.” I call this the mental churn. A beast of a place to find yourself in, but it’s possible to move through it with more ease.
Always approach the mental churn with compassion. When dealing with more uncertainty, it makes sense that your mind will work to keep you safe.
The best anecdotes for mental churn are somatic. Try to do more of the physical activities that you enjoy. You may not feel up to it at the moment, so give yourself a doable amount of time. For example, walking, dancing, yoga, or biking for only five minutes.
Journaling your thoughts and feelings is another anecdote to the mental churn. When you put pen to paper, you are moving the mental energy into the physical. This allows for a release that can help break you out of repetitive thoughts.
Finally, another effective way to move through a period of mental churn is talking it out. This option can be achieved in many different ways. It can look like talking out loud to yourself in the mirror, talking it out with a trusted friend, or bringing it to your therapist. As with journaling, you’re attempting to find relief through releasing repetitive thoughts. Solutions will come but are not the immediate goal.
This week you may be more susceptible to mental churn. Here’s why:
Heads are running hot and heavy when Mercury conjuncts Mars in Scorpio. You or people around you may be dealing with some anxiety, depression, or overwhelm. A great deal of mental energy is moving through the collective, and people engaging in risk-taking behaviors that may impact you.
It’s a good week to seek what helps to keep you calm and balanced internally. Do something that enables you to channel the mental chatter into something productive. Another option is to call on a friend (or your therapist) to help you verbally release issues that feel stuck in your head and emotional body.
At the end of the week, the Sun transiting in Scorpio trines Neptune retrograde in Pisces.
Give yourself permission to take a much-needed break. Sun-Neptune interactions typically require us to slow down and conserve energy. It’s also indicative of an extreme time of sensitivity. If you can, try to filter out people, places, and activities that deplete your energy. Instead, go towards what nourishes. Creativity will likely be among the mix.
