Back to the Beginning:  AKA the Spring Equinox/the Astrological New Year

In many cultures around the world, the ingress of the Sun into Aries is recognized as an important time of year.

In the northern hemisphere, this marks the Spring Equinox. Each proceeding day gets a bit warmer and a bit longer. Nature slowly returns to life. Yet, this annual rebirth birth does not take place without a fight. Whether it’s a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, a crocus flower pushing through the soil, or the baby bird breaking through its shell. Life arises from the dark into the light.

The Sun entering Aries is also known as the astrological new year. The Sun has completed its journey through all the twelve signs of the zodiac, and it begins again at 0° Aries. This exact moment, occurring on March 20 at 8:33 am PST, has a lot to tell us about the months ahead.

In mundane astrology, a branch of astrology focussing on world events, the energy described in the Aries ingress chart sets up the energies, themes, and actions that will unfold during the upcoming three months and sets up events for the year ahead.

Collectively we’re in for a wild ride as events on a global stage continue to be messy and chaotic. Information will be coming at us at an overwhelming pace. We’re being pushed to rise to meet this new normal

Additionally, we will continue to see groups of people with the same concerns organize to push for new ways of behaving. Whether protesting war, legal reforms, or protecting workers’ rights, individuals are coming together to fight for what they believe. This time around, we’ll see greater skill in organizing grassroots movements to be more effective.

The Personal Journey of the Sun through Aries

While the Aries ingress is vital to understanding global events, astrology is also personal, and Aries is the sign of “I.”

The Sun’s transit through Aries will bring energy to a particular area of your life, depending on where Aries sits in your chart.

This is the season of bold moves, enthusiastic new starts, and surrendering to adventure. Pro-tip for Aries season, don’t expect perfection and a smooth ride. Challenges, mistakes, false starts are all part of the fun. Little ones know this really well. Their first attempts at any new task, walking, talking, potty training, don’t go too well. Yet they keep trying. Push through obstacles and setbacks while keeping your eye firmly on your desired outcome. And have fun!

With Mercury also moving through Aries between March 27 and April 10, watch out for aggressively negative self-talk. When communicating, Mercury in Aries lacks a filter. It says a thing plainly and directly, no matter the consequence. You can counter this internal war of words with a short daily practice of self-love affirmations.

Lastly, the Sun will make a sextile to Saturn on April 12th and then a square to Pluto on April 19; if you were able to maintain your grit and resourcefulness throughout Aries season, you’d see the greatest progress around this time.

The Influence of Mars in Aquarius

The Sun’s Journey through Aries will be largely influenced by the transit of its ruler Mars moving through Aquarius. In this sign, Mars takes on the fight for a cause, group, or a radically new way.

Mars in Aquarius will dull the natural individualist nature of Aries season. Whatever personal life-serving activities you seek now, look around and ensure that they support everyone else around you.

The energy is also supportive of not going it alone. What you’re pushing forward this Aries season will go the distance being in communities of like-minded people. Equally, you may need to sever relationships with communities that no longer stimulate this next stage of your personal development journey. Spring cleaning is not only necessary for our homes.

Where it’s happening in your chart

Based on your Rising Sign, here is where you can expect to feel a call to push forward this Aries season. These are general interpretations and do not constitute medical advice or professional services.

Aries Rising.  The Sun is transiting your 1st House of identity and body image. The way you approach life is ready for an upgrade. It won’t be easy to express other aspects of your personality, but you’re ready for people to see you differently. The push forward for you is all about not falling back into outdated patterns that no longer serve your highest intentions.

Taurus Rising. The Sun is transiting your 12th House of spirituality, secrets, and institutions that separate, i.e., prisons/nursing homes. Spring is typically your downtime. What your pushing forward is giving yourself permission to relax, play, adventure without it needing to feel productive. You can do it!

Gemini Rising. The Sun is transiting your 11th House of friendship, groups, aspirations. This Aries season is bringing up a lot of questions around belonging for you. Arguments within your most trusted circles may not feel great, but you will have even stronger bonds if you can navigate the relationship dynamics. Look into your familial dynamics for clues about the hidden lesson in all this.

Cancer Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 10th House of career/status in society. I’m going to be direct here. When it comes to your career, you enjoy a challenge. The Sun transiting through this part of your chart is all about pushing forward in leadership. This is not society’s view of what it means to be a leader. You get to design your own transformative leadership style.

Leo Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 9th House of religion/philosophy, long-distance travel, higher education. You’ve got something to say about how you see the world. Right now, you may be pushing through how to express these ideas in a way that others will listen. If anyone can crack this nut, it’s you. A bit of warning, although convenient, a partner or someone else close to you may not be the best sounding board at this time.

Virgo Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 8th House of transformation, inheritance, and sexuality. This Aries season will be a period of regeneration for you. The new things you’ve had to learn and the adjustments you’ve had to make up to this point will show progress day by day. And the push forward will come from the support you receive from helpers, personal or professional. You don’t have to be the sole source of your renewal.

Libra Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 7th House of marriage and partnerships. Every Spring, your path to renewal and rebirth is through your one-to-one relationships. If you’re not currently in a significant relationship, you can look at the one with yourself. Pushing forward will involve taking stock of your relationship. How is it serving or not serving the individuals? Is fun and adventure present? Are there any aspects that need a refresh? Be prepared and encourage direct honesty. The topic of children or how you spend your time away from the relationship may be important discussion points.

Scorpio Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 6th House of daily routines, work, health, and pets. You may need to push through some stagnant energy to move forward this Aries season. New healthy habits will require stamina and patience to allow them to stick. Get support if you’re finding it hard to stay motivated. Your daily routines or work environment may also require a fresh approach. Think seasonally. What activities can you bring back that align with this time of year?

Sagittarius Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 5th House of children and creativity. It’s time to get back to your creative projects. These past months you’ve been collecting experiences, ideas, and lessons. Taking them out of your head and into a form that others can consume is where you’re pushing through this Aries season. Giving birth and sharing what’s been on your heart is never easy, but you’re up for the challenge.

Capricorn Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 4th House of home and family. There is never a dull moment when we put a bunch of related people together in a room. The personalities and histories blend dynamically, creating tensions that can spark courage or crush one’s spirit. Whatever the result, use it to push you forward into establishing healthier family relationships.

Aquarius Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 3rd House of communications, siblings, and neighbors. Language has given all of us the ability to understand ourselves and each other as we grow more complex, the myriad of ways to communicate also increases. This Aries season, you’re pushing forward into the various ways to say a thing more honestly and directly.

Pisces Rising. The Sun is transiting through your 2nd House of money, resources, and values. As Spring begins, where are you with your energy? Do you have enough reserves to make a big push forward? Energetically you’ll be experiencing waves of creative energy that will require stepping back from your everyday life to receive. That said, this is not a wholly passive time. You are pushing forward into new ways of making money or experimenting with new values.

Other important stuff:  Jupiter Conjuncts Neptune

A very brief word about the highly anticipated Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces on April 12th, I’ve covered this transit here. It’s worth re-reading as we’re just weeks away.

The Jupiter-Neptune conjunction occurring during this Aries season is auspicious.

If we can hone our individual desire to push forward and act collectively, this can spark something beyond our imaginations. A personal act of courage can be the inspiration we all need to expand into a better world for everyone.
