Long before computers, astrologers crafted natal charts by hand. Now we have well designed software to do this work.
A typical astrological software will set you back hundreds of dollars. For the curious or the student astrologer, the internet has made it possible to generate a completely free natal chart.
One of the most popular websites for free astrology charts is astro.com. It’s owned by the company Astrodienst, which is based in Switzerland and has provided astrological services for over 30 years. Since 1996, astro.com is used by astrology enthusiasts, students, and professionals from around the world.

Why get a free natal chart
If you’re not ready to take the plunge and work with a professional astrologer, taking a peek at your natal chart may be beneficial.
For one, most people know only their Sun sign. Generating your chart will allow you to discover your other planetary placements. Knowing your Ascendant or Rising sign will help you better understand astrological content geared towards the general population. For instance, when you read your horoscope in a magazine, reading for your Rising sign may resonate more than reading only for your Sun sign.
Secondly, knowing your house cusps. By generating your birth chart you know which sign is on the cusp of which of the 12 houses. In astrology the houses represents specific areas of life. For example the 2nd House of Money, 7th House of Relationships, and 10th House of Career. When you know which sign falls on which house, you’ll gain some clarity on how you approach life in various ways.
Finally, when you’re ready to work with an astrologer you will already be familiar with the overall set-up of your chart. Sometimes this will allow for a deepen of what you as the client will be open for during a consultation.

What you need
- Birth date
- Birth place
- Birth time, ideally directly from a birth certificate
Steps
- Go to astro.com
- Click on Free Horoscopes
- Under “Drawing & Calculations” select “Extended Chart Selection”. On this page you can choose your house system. I use the whole sign house system but you can leave as default.
- At the top of the page, under “Birth Data” click on “Add a New Person”
- Enter the birth data and click “Continue”
That’s it! You now have generated a free natal chart.
